LAP was launched in September 1978, when 8 paralegals met at the Louisville Free Public Library, all with an idea to draw paralegals together in Louisville to form a professional association.  With much enthusiasm and perseverance the Louisville Association of Paralegals (LAP) was born.  The first meeting at the library framed what is now a highly successful and professional legal association.

In spring of 1979, there were 37 paralegal members in the Louisville area.  Meeting after meeting over the years produced a Board of Directors, our newsletter, Para*graphs, Chair positions, luncheons, community efforts, but above all, LAP established a tremendous networking among our members.

The first membership directory was stapled together using red construction paper as the cover; years later the capabilities of the Internet have taken the place of that crumbled directory.  It wasn’t too long ago that faxing the agenda to the Board saved time and money.  Times have changed, but only for the good thus allowing LAP to grow to over 200 members.

Our members are still able to continue their freeway of networking just as they did in 1978 – it is just as effective but now more streamline.  As with any organization, the evolution of technology has been invaluable to LAP.

LAP is a strong organization held together by countless volunteer hours by Officers, Directors, Chairs, and all members who give of their time to ensure a smooth running club.
